The AKE Foundation conducted an outreach and data collection and sharing agreement with fishermen and collectors in Laigoma Village, Kayoa District, South Halmahera Regency. This activity is a strategic step in strengthening accurate, information-based fisheries governance at the village level.
The outreach aimed to increase understanding of the importance of data in marine resource management. Through routinely collected data—including catch volume, fish species, fishing gear, and the marketing chain—the fishing and collector community can gain a clearer picture of the state of the fisheries business in Laigoma.
During the event, the AKE Foundation team explained the key benefits of data management, including:
- Supporting more informed business decisions
- Mapping potential and pressures on fish resources
- Understanding fishing season trends and supply fluctuations
- Strengthening the position of fishermen and collectors in the fisheries value chain
As a form of shared commitment, the event concluded with the signing of a data collection and sharing agreement. This agreement ensures that all data collection, processing, and utilization processes are conducted ethically and transparently, and that they benefit both parties. Through this participatory approach, the AKE Foundation hopes that Laigoma Village can become an example of a coastal village capable of managing fisheries data independently and sustainably. The active involvement of fishermen and collectors is key to creating a robust, accurate fisheries information system that will improve the welfare of coastal communities.
